Gold Experience
Engineers Without Borders
I was an active member of UMBC's chapter of Engineers Without Borders from spring 2020 to spring 2022. In spring 2020, I was elected as Secretary, where I not only contributed to general chapter operations, but I was heavily involved in the actual community project, which is bringing access to clean water to a community in San Rafael, Costa Rica. The following year, I was elected to be our chapter's Vice President, where I worked towards finishing up and closing out the Costa Rica project during the pandemic, and improving internal operations for our chapter
This experience contributes to my grand challenge of advancing personalized learning because our chapter recruits new members frequently, and they have to be brought up to speed on our project goals and how they can become more involved. In my time on EWB's executive board, I have learned a lot of leadership skills in my time on EWB's executive board, I have learned a lot about what it means to work on a large-scale service project, and developed some great leadership skills along the way!
